2023 Turkey-syria earthquake SAR dataset

This dataset includes two of ICEYE’s Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images in Strip mode, captured over the regions of Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş, and Kilis in Turkey. The images were acquired on 9 and 10 Feb 2023 at 11:03 UTC using a satellite in a Ground Track Repeat (GTR) orbit and forming a coherent pair with a 24-hour interval.

About this dataset

The images provide a post-earthquake snapshot of the affected area and do not capture the co-seismic land surface deformation. However, the coherence and phase information contained within the images reveal significant residual fringes, which appear to be related to structural damages and landslides. The information contained in the images provides key insights for assessing the impact of the earthquake and can be used to guide disaster response efforts.

Each image is split into two frames, with each frame covering an area of approximately 130 km x 40 km (5200 km²). The dataset also includes a coherence map and interferogram obtained from the image pair. The images are in the slant-plane geometry and georeferenced by scene corners, with a relative geolocation that is not ortho-rectified for terrain distortions.

Other parameters of the images include:

  • Orbit direction: Ascending
  • Look direction: Right looking
  • Look angle: 22.28 degrees
  • Normal spatial baseline: approximately 440 m

The images are in GeoTIFF format and can be easily inspected using GIS software such as QGIS and Global Mapper.
